Title Political relations between the USA and Europe (1973)
Description Common interests between the US and the European Community. Report on East/West relations in Europe, the progress towards European integration in the light of the Summit Conference of the Nine. The progress towards East/West detente has increased and underscored the US commitment to West European security. The Ostpolitik of the Federal Republic of Germany has met with the approval of all Western governments, including the US, and has been built into the policies of the NATO Alliance. Berlin agreement underwrites the collective responsibility of the UK, France, the US and the Soviet Union for the situation in and around Berlin. The Moscow Summit marked an important improvement in US/Soviet relations and a joint declaration was issued in favour of talks in preparation for a Conference on Security and Co-operation and mutual and balanced force reductions (MBFR).
